League City Charter Chapter Of ABWA Will Meet On July 16th
Please join the members of the League City Charter Chapter of American Business Women's Association on Thursday, July 16th at 6:30 p.m. The meeting convenes at 7:00 p.m. with a buffet dinner. All members of ABWA and prospective members are encouraged to attend our monthly meeting. Our guest speaker will be Lois A. Killewich, M.D., Ph.D. and professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. Dr. Killewich is a board-certified Vascular Surgeon who has been in practice for almost 20 years. One of her areas of specialty is the treatment of varicose veins, a common medical problem for women. Dr. Killewich uses the latest technology, including minimally-invasive surgical techniques, ultrasound, laser, and sclerotherapy to treat all types of varicose veins in the legs.
Come listen to Dr. Killewich talk about treatment options, as well as other cosmetic procedures to make you look and feel better.
The American Business Women's Association, League City Charter Chapter, is a group of career-minded professionals who support the goals of the organization. Bay Area Learning Center Nominated For Nickelodeon's ParentsConnect Parents' Pick Award
The Bay Area Learning Center at 2409 Falcon Pass has been nominated for a 2009 Nickelodeon's ParentsConnect Parents' Pick Award in the category of "Best Tutor or College Prep - Houston!" Anyone can vote online once per day for nominees until July 15, and ParentsConnect will announce the winners online on August 15. The 2009 award winners will be featured on ParentsConnect throughout the year. Houston City Council Announces Recycling Competition

As you may know, Pineloch was recently chosen to participate in the City of Houston's new Single-Stream Recycling Pilot Program. Single-stream recycling is one of the most efficient ways to recycle -- no sorting of recyclables required!
As Chairman of the City's Sustainable Growth Committee, Council Member Peter Brown has been active in promoting recycling and facilitating the recycling process for Houstonians. So, as a way to encourage participation in your neighborhood, Council Member Brown is personally sponsoring a friendly competition between the eight participating neighborhoods. With the help of Keep Houston Beautiful, he will award the top three neighborhoods with the highest overall participation rates. The Solid Waste Department will monitor monthly participation rates of the eight neighborhoods and average out the monthly rates after six months to determine the winners. The top three neighborhoods will receive: $1,000 (first), $500 (second), $250 (third).
The monetary award will be presented after the six month period to the winning neighborhood associations/civic clubs (tentatively scheduled for Monday, September 21, 2009), which they will use for neighborhood revitalization and beautification projects within the neighborhood. The Pineloch Community Association has agreed to participate in this competition, so get those carts out and participate! Monthly participation reports will be sent to the Pineloch Community Association, and will also be available on our website at: www.HoustonTX.gov/council/1/committees.html. Initial participation results are provided below.

Proposed Land Use Restrictions May Impact Your Home Value
The City of Houston is proposing new regulations to control future development around the three airports; George R. Bush Airport, William P. Hobby Airport and Ellington Field. The goal of these regulations is to prevent encroachment today in order to allow airport growth in the future. It seems to be a good cause, however, the proposed plan imposes restrictions on EXISTING residential structures as well. If this passes, homeowners in Bay Knoll and Bay Glen will no longer be able to enlarge, replace (fire, hurricane, etc.) or substantially renovate their homes without being forced to comply with expensive noise control measures in the construction. Furthermore, people selling homes in our neighborhood will be required to provide written warning to prospective buyers that the home is within a high noise area.
The measures addressing existing residential structures do nothing to prevent residential encroachment. Their sole effect is to impose a penalty on homeowners who live near the airport. They will almost certainly have a negative impact on our property values.
